  • BMW has several automotive surprises planned for May, including a spectacular 2-seat sports car and a very angular, aerodynamic sedan
  • BMW calls the sports car an "elegantly, sporty one-off" and a "homage" although which BMW it is paying homage to is not yet clear
  • BMW has also developed "a very special BMW M car" and an all-electric, M Performance model of the BMW M series
  • Experts are saying that the new M Performance could be BMW's most powerful production car ever with 748 hp & 737 lb-ft of torque produced by dual electric motors
  • The new BMW concepts will be presented in Italy at the Concorso d'Eleganze Villa d'Este annual automotive event on Lake Como in mid-May

  • Rolls Royce, MINI and other global automakers will also present their new concept cars.

YOUR PERSONALIZED NUTRITION:  3D PRINTED CHEESECAKE

                                 Source:  Columbia University

  • Engineers & scientists at Columbia University say 3D printing could be the future of food & personalized nutrition
  • The team whipped up, cooked and assembled a 7-ingredient, vegan cheesecake via a 3D printer in their lab
  • What is highly innovative is that they used the laser inside the 3D printer to do the cooking - that could be a big breakthrough to 3D printing commercialization for consumers
  • The potential of this new approach to meal preparation & cooking is multi-layered customized foods with precise ingredients, precise flavors, greater food safety & better control over nutritional data
  • This new future for food needs an ecosystem of supporting industries built around it like food cartridge manufacturers & even recipe file cookbooks for 3D printer cooking
  • The Columbia University research, published in npj Science of Food, could herald the transition of 3D printers from just industrial machinery to commercial consumer products for cooking.

  • Swiss startup Sun-Ways has developed an innovative approach to solar power by deploying solar panels between train tracks
  • The company estimates that half of the railroad tracks around the world could contain standard solar panels embedded between the rails without impacting train travel, views or the environment
  • Working with the Swiss Federal Technology Institute, Sun-Way has developed a unique mechanical device that positions & fastens the solar panels between the rails
  • The solar panels are removable for any needed track maintenance
  • Sun-Way is currently focused on installing panels in western Switzerland's public rail system
  • The company estimates that their system could generate 1 Terawatt hours of electricity yearly in Switzerland
  • Sun-Way has plans to take this innovation throughout Europe and into the US and Asia.
