New DARPA Challenge for Artificial Intelligence in Close Combat Source: DARPA AI Powered Aircraft Dogfighting This is an intriguing use for Artificial intelligence.  Split second AI decision making in 1-on-1, air to air combat to free up pilots for the bigger combat decisions beyond a 1-on-1 dogfight.  The US Defense Department's Advanced Research Projects Agency DARPA just started a program to develop such an advanced AI system to give the US military an overwhelming technological advantage. Manned and Unmanned Platforms This is a case of manned and unmanned platforms in combat flights working side by side.  The human pilots need to have total confidence in the autonomous system.  That's a key part of this new DARPA project.  They want pilots to totally trust these unmanned, autonomous systems fighting right along side of them.  They call it ACE, the Aerial Combat Evolution program. Impossible Burger, Very Possible Money

$750 million in Funding Meatless Burger Sensation Impossible Burger was one of the big hits at the Consumer Electronics Show 2019.  In fact, the meatless, plant-based burger was a star of the show with the public and journalists.  They loved the taste. Impossible Foods Today, the company behind it Impossible Foods announced that it raised $300 million from investors in its latest round of funding.  That brings the grand total to $750 million, leading up to a possible initial public offering. Stanford University Entrepreneur The company was founded by a Stanford University Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry, Pat O'Reilly Brown.  His product at the CES 2019 received rave reviews on taste, texture and appearance.  Impossible Burger is already sold in 7,000 restaurants worldwide, including at Disney Theme Parks.  Burger King is launching the Impossible Whopper with the Impossible meatless patties in a nationwide rollout at all of its US stores this year. $6 Billion Global

Sports Make Better Students

New Research by Michigan State University Source:  Michigan State University Track Team Sports Lead to Better Grades and Retention Rates A new study by researchers at Michigan State University adds to the growing body of evidence that participating in recreational sports helps to improve grades and also helps students return to college for another year. 1800 Students Included The study included 1800 freshman at MSU.  The students who played intramural sports averaged 3.25 grad point averages versus 3.07 for those who didn't participate in sports activities.  Students who played sports also were 2.5 times more likely to come back to the university the next year. Right Number of Activities The findings are in the Journal of College Student Retention.  The researchers say the right number of activities are four to seven a year, ranging from intramural sports like ultimate frisbee and running to aerobics classes.

New Stock Exchange - Silicon Valley Innovation

SEC Okays New Silicon Valley Stock Exchange Source:  London Stock Exchange stock image Innovation and Tech Express US regulators at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) just approved a new stock exchange.  This will give innovation companies with high growth potential the chance to list their shares outside of traditional big New York exchanges.  The exchange is called the Long-Term Stock Exchange, LTSE and is located in the Silicon Valley of California. Entrepreneur's Idea This concept of a stock exchange for new innovation companies is the creation of entrepreneur, investor and startup advisor Eric Reis.  He raised $19 million from venture capitalists to make this happen.  It will be a Silicon Valley based national securities exchange. Reis says it will promote a unique approach to governance and voting rights.  It will also reduce short-term pressure on these emerging public companies.  The companies will also be able to dual list their shares on the NYSE and
