New Tech Said to Kill Coronavirus

GermFalcon Said to Kill Coronavirus on Aircraft Source:  GermFalcon World on Edge as Virus Relentlessly Spreads In the past twenty four hours, dramatic action has been taken to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.  The World Health Organization has put the world on notice that the coronavirus is now a pandemic.  Major universities like Harvard, MIT and Boston University have ended regular classes and shifted those classes to online.  President Trump has put extensive travel restrictions into place including no flights coming to the US from Europe for at least thirty days.  And, the NBA has ended its basketball season in the US.  Now, comes a glimmer of hope.  A US company - Dimer UVC Innovations of Los Angeles  - says it has developed a machine that kills dangerous viruses with ultra-violet light. Three Minutes and Germ Free The GermFalcon uses a UV-C light system to kill deadly viruses like the Coronavirus inside  airplanes.  The device is not robotic as the

Exoplanet "From Hell" Just Discovered

Rains Liquid Molten Iron Source:  Image of Planet Raining Molten Iron Exoplanet WASP-76 B Some scientists are calling WASP-76 B the exoplanet from Hell.  It was just discovered in another solar system and is therefore an exoplanet.  The exoplanet is so exotic that even the weather conditions are extremely bizarre.  On WASP-76 B it's usually cloudy with a chance of rain.  But the rain drops are hot liquid molten iron that are boiling hot.  European scientists and astronomers just spotted it using the planet hunting instrument EXPRESSO on a huge international telescope based in Chile.  The weather conditions on this exoplanet are so severe there is molten iron rain! It's a unique finding in the Universe. And despite the extremely harsh environment, you have to wonder about the value of the mineral deposits on such a far away frontier in space. Ultra Hot Gas Giant 640 Light Years From Earth This very hot exoplanet is 640 light years away from the Earth.  An

Sats to Monitor Global Air Quality 24/7

New NASA, ESA, South Korea Virtual Network to Monitor Air Pollution Source:  UK Government - Air Pollution in Europe Hourly Air Quality, Air Pollution Updates NASA, the European Space Agency and South Korea are joining forces to create a new constellation of satellites with highly advanced instrumentation to monitor global air quality and air pollution.  The system is so advanced it is capable of monitoring, tracking and providing hourly updates on air quality anyplace on Earth. South Korea Launch The environmental watch from space was just kicked off by South Korea's launch of its Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer, aboard its ocean monitoring satellite.  NASA will launch similar instruments in 2022.  The European Space Agency will launch its own satellites and instruments in 2023.  It will be the world's first, real time, air quality monitoring system covering the globe with updates every hour. Global Air Quality Monitoring Networ

Wine: Victim of Global Warming

Image
SpaceX Latest Launch Includes Wine Experiments in Space Source:  SpaceX Rocket Launch Vino Vines in Space SpaceX's latest launch contains experiments designed to save wine from the destruction of Climate Change.  Global warming is putting grapes and wine at risk as they are very susceptible to changes in temperature.  The Climate Change situation is so significant some vineyard owners are moving their operations to colder regions in higher altitudes.  The wine experiments that SpaceX carried to the International Space Station are designed to remedy the situation. International Space Station European startup Space Cargo Unlimited is the force behind the wine experiments.  Their project was ferried by SpaceX to the International Space Station.  Included are vines for Merlot and for Cabernet Sauvignon to see how they fare during six months aboard the ISS in space.  The grape vines will be subjected to zero gravity and increased radiation.  Space Cargo Unlimited sc

E-Planes Drawing Fuel From Air Friction

Image
Turning Air Friction into Electrical Energy For Electric Planes Source:  The Eather One Electric Plane Concept Green, Clean Flying A new electric aircraft concept, named The Eather One, is powered by pure air.  Specifically, stratospheric air friction to create electric energy to fly the plane.  The air friction can be seen in action behind a high flying jet that leaves a plume of white smoke across the sky in its wake.  The plume holds for quite some time because there is very little air circulation in the stratosphere.  When a high speed aircraft cuts through the higher atmosphere, it generates tremendous air friction and vibrations.  Tapping into that tremendous source of energy is the concept behind Eather One that future aircraft may capitalize on. Electric Flying with Nanogenerators on the Wings The concept plane is equipped with triboelectric nanogenerators on its wings and across the top of the aircraft. The  nanogenerators capture the turbulent air f
