Electrifying Performance from Mercedes' PHEV Sedan

Mercedes has unveiled the most powerful S Class sedan that it has ever created.  And it is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) which happens to be Mercedes flagship.  It's the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance hybrid.  The EV with its hybrid V-8 engine delivers a very powerful 791 hp and 1,055 ft-lbs of torque.  The vehicle is one of Mercedes most powerful vehicles ever and it is engineered for top driving performance.  Furthermore, as a flagship model, it heralds that PHEV's are a key direction for MB vehicles in the future.

Beautiful Design

The new EV design is elegant, classic and beautiful. It is very much in the 4-door, luxury sedan S-Class tradition but with some upgrades.  There are 21-inch wheels, a bumper with big air intakes and a new AMG grille in the front.  These new touches give the car a more exciting, athletic and sportier look.  The interior is pure luxury with specialized digital displays and much more.

Tech Specs

This EV is a hybrid V-8 powertrain, large, 4-door luxury sedan.  It has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine with a rear-axle, mounted electric motor.  The electric motor is attached to a 13.1-kWh battery pack which provides 20 miles of all-electric range. Top speed is 180 mph.  And it rockets from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, which puts the EV into supercar category.  The powertrain is connected to a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all 4 wheels.  There are 7 dynamic driving modes to select from, including electric and slippery, which are customizable to the driver.  Mercedes hasn't specified the price yet, but it is expected to be north of $160,000.
