  • Norwegian cruise line Hurtigruten has developed a zero emissions cruise ship with giant sails embedded with solar panels, that's being called a world first
  • The design is radical; it's expected to go into service by 2030 and it contains technology firsts, specifically built for the ship including:
  1. Retractable huge sails that soar 164 feet
  2. Sails are laden with solar panels to generate solar power
  3. Charges in port
  4. All electric, zero emissions
  • Length:  443 feet
  • Accommodates:  500 guests, 99 crew & has 273 cabins
  • Battery:  60 MWh
  • Range:  350 nautical miles per charg
  • Zero emissions, sustainable cruise ship compared to typical crise ship with a carbon footprint greater than 12,000 cars
  • Norwegian crise line currently has 7 supersized vessels & intends to turn them all electric.

ROBOT MAKES SALADS AFTER WATCHING VIDEOS

  • University of Cambridge robot makes salads after watching videos of chefs demonstrating & making the recipes
  • Cambridge roboticists programmed the robot with a cookbook of 8 different salad recipes
  • The robot came up with a 9th on its own
  • The researchers wanted to determine if they could train a robot to learn how to whip up a salad in the same step-by-step, incremental way that humans do
  • Their robot watched 16 different salad making videos & duplicated them correctly 93% of the time
  • Purpose:  teach robots to learn a range of food preparations and let them do the cooking for you.
