AI COMMENTARY DEBUTS AT WIMBLEDON

  • Generative AI is making its debut at the world-famous Wimbledon tennis tournament and will provide game commentary on Wimbledon's app and website
  • The All English Club announced daily highlight clips will be done by AI as well as text captions, rather than by humans
  • The technology comes from IBM's watsonx and Wimbledon finds it an exciting way to take the commentary way beyond the tennis courts
  • The AI will also be using ball tracking data and information on the types of shots being made by the players and their positions on the court
  • The tech has been trained to use the unique language of tennis
  • IBM Sport Partnership Leader Kevin Farrar feels the AI is complimentary to tennis great/commentator John McEnroe and couldn't replace him
  • Host broadcaster BBC is going with human commentators but concedes that they could use AI in the future as well
  • An AI commentary model was used at the US Masters golf tournament earlier this year
  • AI is rapidly infiltrating many aspects of our daily lives including sports.

WISK AERO TARGETS AUTONOMOUS eVTOL FUTURE

  • At the 2023 Paris Air Show, California-based Wisk Aero, now owned by Boeing, unveiled its Gen 6 eVTOL that is seeking FAA certification
  • Key details:
  • Aims to be "world's 1st autonomous aircraft" eVTOL
  • 12 electric motors mounted front and back on the fixed wings
  • Rear motors give vertical lift
  • Front motors give forward flight to fly like a plane
  • Range - 90 miles
  • Seats 4 people
  • Top altitude - 4,000 feet
  • Wingspan - 50 feet
  • Targets to be commercially operating - by 2030
  • First flight - later this year
  • CEO Brian Yutko - "willing to succeed or fail autonomously"
  • Autonomous system:  Safran's SkyNaute inertial navigation system
  • Wisk Aero eVTOL Gen 6 is something to watch for development.

  China's SAIC Revolutionizes the Historic British MG Brand                                              Source:  MG Cyberster Electric MG Sport Car Concept Becomes a Reality The legendary sports car company MG was founded in the 1920's in Oxford, England. It enjoyed a long history of creating iconic MG, 2 seat sports cars.
