  • Roboticists at Caltech have created what is undoubtedly the world's most mobile robot that flies, drives, walks and a lot more
  • In fact, using its AI and tremendous flexibility, it reconfigures its body to achieve 8 distinct types of motion
  • It's called M4 for Multi-Model Mobility Morphobot
  • M4 can autonomously assess the environment that it's in and choose the most effective combination of motions in order to maneuver through it
  • Here's what M4 can accomplish:
  1. Rolls on 4 wheels
  2. Converts its wheels into rotors and flies
  3. Stands on 2-wheels to see over obstacles
  4. Walks by using its wheels like feet
  5. Uses 2 rotors and 2 wheels to roll up steep hills
  6. Can tumble with dexterity and more
  7. According to the Caltech team, M4 has many uses from transporting injured people to the hospital to exploring planets
  • The team's primary goal with M4 is to push the boundaries of locomotion for robots and they certainly have.
