Here are the key facts: Broad Institute scientists used a deep-learning algorithm to identify new compounds that are effective against antibiotic resistant infections These compounds are being used to develop a new class of antibiotics discovered with the assistance of AI to combat bacterial infections that have become resistant to antibiotics These new antibiotics could save millions of lives yearly Just in 2019, antibiotic resistant bacteria killed 1.27 million people and contributed to 5 million more deaths globally Those numbers have continued to rise because of COVID 19 The use of AI and deep learning algorithms by these scientists could have a profound effect
