  • Airbus' EcoPulse is a breakthrough piece of aviation innovation that pioneers high voltage, hybrid electric flight.  It has important potential for a reduced carbon emissions future of flying.  Here are some key facts:
  • EcoPulse just reached an aviation milestone in a 100-minute test flight using its unique hybrid-electric technologies
  • The demonstrator plane flew successfully and will continue a series of flight tests through mid-2024
  • It has been under development by Airbus, Daher and Safran since 2019
  • The hybrid electric system combines a high voltage, 800-volt battery pack with an electric turbogenerator, along with multiple propulsion pods across the wings
  • It's designed to learn and mature the hybrid-electric system
  • The technological approach is called hybridization, which is an important investment by Airbus
  • Hybridization could significantly reduce the carbon emissions spewed from planes during flight
  • Development of these new technologies being spearheaded by Airbus continues to move forward.
