  Ram, Volvo, Sony/Honda Among New Car Concepts                                                                 Source: New Car Concepts: MB, Sony, Ram Plus, Exciting New Automotive Technologies The world's top electronics trade show, CES 2023, opens in Las Vegas in early January.  Global automakers are planning to make important new EV presentations and breakthrough technology announcements.  Examples include Ram unveiling a concept of its upcoming electric pickup truck that is designed to compete against the Ford Lightning pickup.  The Ram e-truck is expected to have huge horsepower, range and hauling capabilities.  Dodge Ram is now owned by Stellantis.  Their new electric pickup, 2024 RAM 1500 EV, is expected to draw lots of interest.   Hydrogen iX5 SUV                                                                      Source:  BMW BMW's Hydrogen NEXT Fuel Cell Technology BMW is expanding into hydrogen technology with its new hydrogen powered iX5 SUV.  The vehicle will be equipped with BMW's new i Hydrogen NEXT fuel cell technology.  Based on the BMW X5, the new iX5 is essentially an EV that has been retrofitted with a fuel cell stack, electric motor and battery and a new floor to accommodate the hydrogen tanks. The tanks have a total capacity of 16 pounds.  They feed the under-hood fuel cell stack paired with a rear mounted electric motor and battery.  The vehicle has just entered production and a small number will be on streets around the world for more testing in 2023. BMW says it will put a much larger number into production in the second half of this decade.  The iX5 is considered the precursor of future BMW hydrogen powered vehicles. Tech Specs The new hydrogen iXA offers both power and performance.

The SUV provides a lot of cabin space and has an elegant, aerodynamic design.  The design team is said to have been given a great deal of freedom to pursue their collective vision of design.  The result is a stunning looking, airy, all-electric SUV with a powerful battery that affords 280 miles of range on a charge.   Highly Aerodynamic Vehicle The EV has a dual electric motor powertrain that generates 610 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds.  Top speed is 155 mph.  It has one of the lowest drag coefficients among production cars at .26, making it a highly aerodynamic SUV.  The vehicle has 21-inch wheels with Pirel

Interestingly, it's a totally, all-electric, green machine that's made of plant-based material.  Specifically, the body is composed of natural fiber reinforced polymer which is similar to carbon-fiber in its lightweight nature.  This vehicle is something new, exciting and unexpected from BMW.  Automotive experts are intrigued by what the car is, what it may become and what BMW's plans are for it -- all of which BMW hasn't disclosed.  We do know one thing: the performance of the off-roader is very impressive.
