  Joby Considers Going Public                                                                      Source:  Joby Air Taxi Flying Taxis Fleets by 2023 The dawn of flying taxis is getting closer.  California based startup Joby is exploring the possibility of going public.  Joby is a very hot aircraft technology company developing an all electric, zero emissions, vertical air taxi which it hopes to put into service by 2023.  Also it recently took over Uber's flying taxi unit Elevate.  As part of the deal, Uber took a stake in Joby. Potential of Significant New Money There is no guarantee that Joby will go public.  But it has hired investment bankers and it reportedly is exploring a merger with what is called a "blank check" or special purposes company at a valuation of $5 billion.  It's an alternative way of going public rather than the traditional IPO route.  Joby is currently valued at $2.6 billion.  Going public would potentially bring in significant new money for Job

Next Steps Toward Commercialization The industry itself will have to catch up to the battery. The investment infusion brought Cruise's market valuation to $30 billion. That is very close to Waymo, the self-driving company owned by Google's parent Alphabet, valued at slightly over $30 billion.   Chevron & Carbon Capture Technology                                                                           Source:  Oil Refinery Stock Image Blue Planet US major oil company Chevron disclosed that it is investing in San Jose, CA based Blue Planet Systems Company.  Blue Planet is a startup that develops and manufactures carbon capture technology.  The technology cuts the carbon output of industrial processes in order to reduce their carbon footprint.  Chevron is making the investment through its Future Energy Fund. The Fund focuses on new, innovative lower carbon technologies being developed by startups that can scale up commercially.  The two companies plan to collaborate on pilot projects with the new carbon capture technology in certain locations.  Chevron did not disclose the amount of  the investment. It's priced at $200 below its 2020 predecessor phone Galaxy S20.   UBtech's Adibot Source:  UBtech Robot Can Be Rented For $15/day UBtech, the Chinese robotic company, has invented a robot that can rid a space - like a room, office or school - of COVID-19.  It's a large, cylindrical robot called Adibot that disinfects rooms with UVC light.  The company says it provides hospital grade sanitizing in less than a minute and a half.  Adibot comes in a stationary form that can be wheeled into a room.  And there is an autonomous model that pilots itself using lidar.  It neutralizes pathogens and in particular COVID-19 with UVC light.  The light dosage can be adjusted for different diseases.  What is very remarkable is that the robot can be rented for $15/day. And, the pattern continues to escalate.  Europe, the Arctic and southern Siberia experienced their hottest year ever in 2020.  All experienced extreme heatwaves and fires.  In the US, the rising temperatures in 2020 caused 22 distinct disasters, including wildfires and hurricanes, resulting in $95 billion in damage. Wave Mini The Wave Mini is for use in the home.  It focuses on risk factors for mold and is expected to be adapted for tracking viral transmission.  These gadgets are very creative ways to monitor the air that we are breathing.  In the future, they are likely to be incorporated into air purifiers to both monitor and clean the air of pathogens like COVID.

Norway Leads the World on EVs

  54% of 2020 Cars Sold in Norway Are Electric                                           Source:  Norway Electric Cars VW - not Tesla - Is the Leader Electric battery vehicles were the #1 car category sold in Norway in 2020 .  EVs hit a record 54% of Norwegian vehicle sales.  Norway is leading the world in its efforts to make gas powered vehicles obsolete.  And in Norway, Volkswagen has scored a big win.  For 2020, it beat out Tesla as the #1 electric vehicle brand. VW's luxury brand Audi and its e-tron electric vehicles were the #1 EV seller.   Tesla EV Sales Top Wall Street Estimates                                                                 Source:  Tesla Concept R                                                                                         Source:  Tesla Roadster Outperforming the Auto Industry Despite Global Pandemic During the 2020 global pandemic, Tesla continued to accelerate its business and outperform the global automotive industry.  Tesla vehicle sales for the entire year of 2020 were far better than expected and beat Wall Street estimates.  The company delivered 499.550 vehicles, well above the estimated 481, 261 for the year.  This was just 450 vehicles short of CEO Elon Musk's ambitious plan to reach a benchmark of 500,000 vehicles delivered in 2020.  Musk tweeted he is proud of what his team has accomplished.  Indeed, during a crippling global COVID pandemic that has brought the global economy and the automotive industry into a very rough place, what Tesla accomplished in 2020 is amazing.

They call it the ZEROe.  The European company is analyzing three different options to use hydrogen as the primary source of power to fly commercial aircraft, carrying as many as 200 passengers to start.  If successful, Airbus would be leading the biggest transition in commercial aviation history.  Its technology would move airplanes from highly polluting jet fuel to zero emissions hydrogen fuel.
