CUTTING AIR TRAVEL TIME IN HALF - BOOM

  • A new SST being developed by Denver-based Boom is designed to cut air travel time in half by flying at supersonic speeds
  • Here are the facts:
  1. Boom is innovating commercial air travel with the development  of its commercial supersonic passenger jet Overture
  2. Targeted for passenger flights in 2027
  3. Will carry 64 to 80 passengers
  4. Flies on sustainable aviation fuel
  5. Top speed Mach 1.7 or 1,260 mph
  6. Altitude up to 60,000 feet
  7. Boom has orders for 130 Overtures from United, American and Japan Airlines
  8. First flight tests later this year
  9. Could provide the first supersonic flights since Concorde which stopped service in 2003
  • NASA is also developing a hydrogen-powered SST designed to fly at Mach 4 or approximately 3,000 mph.

  • Kia is rolling out a series of new electric vehicles including the upcoming EV5 SUV
  • Here's what we know:
  1. Specifically, being developed for millennials (born 1981 - 1996)
  2. All-electric
  3. Smaller than EV6
  4. Available as single or double motor configuration with 225 hp to 577 hp
  5. Large NCM 77.4 kWh battery pack
  6. 372-mile range
  7. Design:  smooth, wide shoulders and big fenders
  8. Interior:  "living room feel", including mood lighting
  9. Wide dashboard with 2 large displays:  digital gauge cluster and infotainment
  10. New design philosophy:  Opposites United - tall and boxy
  11. Expected to launch first in China in later half of 2023 and is expected to be available in US and elsewhere
  • More details will be released this fall
  • Kia is considered a growing rival to Tesla.

ROBOT MEDICS: PERFORMING 'FIRST AID' WHERE DOCTORS CAN'T GO

  • England's University of Sheffield scientists have developed a robot medic that can perform first aid in challenging environments that doctors can't access like a radiation leak, building collapse or earthquake zone
  • Here's what we know:
  • First of its kind robotic technology that provides remote medical treatment to victims in high-risk environments
  • Unmanned, remotely operated, mobile robot vehicle capable of reaching victims in extreme disaster conditions and providing medical triage
  • The robot medic has two robotic arms
  • Uses VR (virtual reality) systems that operate medical tools to assess victims' medical conditions
  • Enables remote doctor to check victim's temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and give injections
  • Robot autonomously streams the data to the medical team
  • Robot delivers injections via auto-inject
  • Using Medical Telexistence (Meditel), the robot gives vital patient information to a remote operator to enable critical diagnosis of high-risk casualty victims
  • Robot medic can normally assess a medical condition within 20 minutes
  • This new robotic technology has the potential to save lives
  • The scientists are looking to bring this into full development and production through more funding and business partnerships.
