Planets Better For Life Than Earth                                                       Source:  NASA New Scientific Discovery Scientists have discovered 24 "superhabitable" planets with conditions better for life than on Earth and with stars better than our Sun.  The research was led by a team at Washington State University. The planets are warmer, wetter, larger and older than the Earth.  The scientists used a set of criteria to identify the "superhabitable" planets including presence of water, mild temperature and atmospheric conditions, among others. Space Targets For the Search For Life The 24 planets are 100 light years away from the Earth.  The scientists say their findings serve as targets for the next generation of telescopes to explore for signs of life. The scientists believe these 24 planets have the most promising conditions for complex forms of life.  They were identified from a group of 4500 exoplanets.  They estimate the age range of the planets a

2 Super-Earths Just Discovered Source:  Gliese 887 2 Exoplanets That Could Support Life A team of German scientists have discovered two, Super-Earths just 11 light years away from Earth.  The astronomers spotted them near the red dwarf star Gliese 887.  They are outside of our solar system and they could sustain life. Earth Like University of Gottingen astronomer Sandra Saffers reported in the journal Science that the 2 exoplanets provide the best possibilities for the search for life outside of our solar system.  In their report, the astronomers said they believe the exoplanets could contain liquid water and have a rocky surface like the Earth. They also have calculated that the surface temperature on these exoplanets at 158 degrees (F) or 70 degrees (C). Gliese 887b & Gliese 887c The newly discovered Super-Earths have been named Gliese 887b and Gliese 887c.  NASA says more than 4,000 exoplanets have been discovered in space.  Exoplanets have a mass larger than t

NASA's 1st Glimpse of Rocky, Earth-Sized Exoplanet Source:  NASA - Exoplanet Exoplanet Outside of the Solar System This is the first glimpse of the rocky, 1.3 times larger than Earth Exoplanet just spotted by a NASA space telescope.  It is literally out of this world, outside of our solar system at 49 light years away.  It's called LHS 3844b, has no atmosphere and the surface is most likely as barren as the Moon.  It is an extraordinary piece of astronomy and science.  For more details, go to Important Innovations Collection: Out of This World Exoplanet : NASA's 1st View of  Rocky Exoplanet Outside of the Solar System Source:  NASA Artist Rendering Exoplanet LHS 3844b A NASA space ...
