Two Electrifying Versions

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 in Las Vegas, Chevrolet introduced its first, all-electric Silverado pickup truck.  This is Chevy's answer to Ford's all-electric Ford-150 Lightning pickup.  It is also the beginning of head-on, electric truck competition among GM, Ford and the much-delayed Tesla Cybertruck promised to debut sometime this year.  Lightning will hit the market later this year. Chevy will start selling the Silverado EV in 2023.

Tech Specs

The new Silverado has a dual motor, all-electric powertrain, known as GM's Ultium EV platform.  Two versions of the Silverado EV are being offered:  the high-end RST and the Work Truck (WT).  The powertrain has front and rear motors with 4-wheel drive and 4-wheel steering.  Both have a 24 module Ultium battery power pack.  The RST's motors deliver 664 hp and the WT's deliver 510 hp. Both EVs can travel 400 miles on a single charge.  It takes only 10 minutes of charging to add an additional 100 miles range when needed.  WT can tow 8000 pounds and carry a 1200-pound payload.  RST can tow 10,000 pounds and carry a 1300-pound payload.

Interior Technology

The RST has a 17" touchscreen infotainment system, a driver's display, and a 11" instrument gauge.  There is also access to GM's Super Cruise, hands-free driver assistance tech for help to navigate over 200,000 miles of mapped roads in the US.  Concerning the WT, it has an 11" center display and an 8" gauge cluster.  The vehicles can seat up to 5 people.  In terms of price, the WT starts at $39,900 and a top-of-the-line RST is priced at $105,000.  Ford's F-150 Lightning starts at $41,000.  Silverado EVs can be reserved right now for 2023.
