Overair's Long Anticipated eVTOL with Newest Technologies

California-based Overair has unveiled its much anticipated Butterfly, an eVTOL commercial design that incorporates more than 20 years of the latest, military and commercial, electric vertical takeoff and landing technologies.  This vehicle is expected to be the ultimate for vertical lift capabilities.  The company says Butterfly is designed to be the most robust, efficient, safe and quiet aircraft in its eVTOL class.  It's a zero emissions, operator inexpensive, mobility workhorse with extensive utilization.

Tech Specs

What differentiates Butterfly from other eVTOLs is its breakthrough propulsion system.  It's called the Optimum Speed Propulsion (OSP) system.  Butterfly has four large propellers.  They move and spin very slowly for hover and can even get into a slower speed which offers two major advantages to this aircraft.  It can fly with very little noise over especially high density and sound sensitive urban routes.  And the propellers are so efficient they consume only a small amount of motor power to carry heavy loads and operate in difficult environmental conditions.

Being Commercialized

Overair is commercializing Buttterfly.  It is a different type of transportation system , according to the company, that is optimized for "safety, passenger experience, affordability and utilization".  It is specifically designed for use over congested metropolitan areas.  It combines low energy use and maintenance costs for an all electric vehicle with the robust electric flight qualities of an OSP.  The company expects to get FAA certification in 2025 and start selling the eVTOLS in targeted US and South Korean markets.  We'll watch the roll out of the vehicle and gather more details as they are disclosed.
