Dawn of Flying Taxi Services                                                 Source:  Embraer & Eve Eve Publicly Traded on NYSE This is turning out to be quite the week for Brazilian aerospace company Embraer and its eVTOL subsidiary and partner Eve.  Eve's technology is undergoing flight tests over Rio de Janeiro this week to collect data on its vertical landing and takeoff capabilities.  They're using conventional, piloted helicopters that are part of Embraer's Autonomous System project or EASy to do the testing and push forward the goal of autonomous flights.  It's another aviation landmark in the journey toward fully certified and autonomous eVTOL (electric, vertical takeoff and landing) flying taxis. Eve Goes Public Simultaneously, Eve was spun-off by Embraer this week and has just started trading on the NYSE.  Embraer and Eve remain partners in the development of eVTOL vehicles.  For nearly two years, the two have been testing subscale models of Eve in order

eVTOL Eve is Pulling in Global Orders

4 New Breakthrough Green Flying Concepts                                                  Source: Embraer Sustainable Flying Takes Off Brazilian based aircraft manufacturer Embraer has introduced 4, low to zero emissions aircraft designs that it is calling "new disruptive green technologies" for sustainable flying.  The planes are small prop driven design concepts.  They are called the Energia line and offer four options with variable flying approaches. All 4 approaches offer very low to zero carbon emissions. Embraer says they are developing these planes as small models from 9 to 50 passengers.  But they add that the new planes can later be scaled up into much larger planes. Breakthrough Green Aviation Technology The new plane concepts include: The Energia Gas Turbine which can carry 50 passengers and is powered by hydrogen or sustainable aviation fuel. The Energia Hybrid which seats 9 passengers and has 2 rear mounted electric engines to take off and soar. A combustion  e

Flexcraft -   Reconfigurable With Passenger or Cargo Cabins `                                       Source:  Flexcraft Consortium Wings Fly Home On Their Own Portugal's Flexcraft electric flying car design has won the Gold Prize in the Transport category of the International Design Awards.  The technology and innovation tucked into the design of this modular vehicle are disruptive innovation. The vehicle is reconfigurable and capable of a variety of missions.  It can carry a passenger or cargo cabin and can be used for luxury transport, humanitarian cargo missions or medical evacuations. The cabin is connected to the wings for flight.  But after landing, the wings detach and the 3-wheeled cabin drives to its destination as an electric car.  The wings can fly themselves to a pre-programmed location, perhaps to pick up another cabin.  The cabin and the wings are designed to work together and independently. Highly Innovative, New Pulse Concept Source:  Embraer New Transportation System Embraer's Pulse Concept electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (EVTOL) centers around a smart glass passenger pod that seamlessly transfers the occupants between the plane and the car for flying and driving modes.  This is a first of its kind transportation system that links autonomous land and flying vehicles with a central passenger pod.   It is a unique and highly creative new concept that provides a fascinating look at the future of transportation and the futuristic types of travel models that could be in use within 45 years. Paired Autonomous Vehicles The Design Ops team at Brazilian based Embraer created the Pulse Concept for Embraer's 50th anniversary as an aircraft manufacturer.  Pulse Concept is a pair of autonomous vehicles that travel on land and in the air without the passengers ever having to get out of the central pod. The pod moves to the vehicle in us

New Satellite Watching Amazon

China-Brazil Earth Observation Satellite Watching Amazon Rain Forest Source: Satellite Image of Amazon Fires Bi-lateral Cooperation to Help the Environment This is bilateral collaboration on a jointly developed satellite by Brazil and China, an earth observation satellite to monitor the Amazon Rain Forest. The sat was launched today and the Chinese-Brazil satellite development program relationship goes back to 1988.  The recent rainforest fires caused massive damage to the bio-diversity in the Amazon.  The hope is this highly advanced satellite system will monitor, protect and prevent such disasters.  For the Amazon, it seems like a little too late, but it's significant technology that could be very useful going forward for the Amazon and elsewhere globally. Innovation in Bilateral Sat Cooperation BRICS, standing for Brazil. Russia, India, China and South Africa, is the coalition of nations behind forwarding this satellite effort. It's an awesome effort pulling to

Fires Ravaging Amazon Rain Forest

Brazil May Send Its Army In to Combat the Amazon Fires Source:  Amazon Burning Global Environmental Concern About the "Lungs of the World" It's mind boggling and clearly an international crisis.  The Amazon Rain Forest, which is the world's largest, is engulfed in raging fires.  In Brazil alone, there have been 74,000 fires in the Amazon this year.  The Amazon Rain Forest covers parts of nine countries, but Brazil is key.  Importantly, the Amazon produces 20% of the oxygen on Earth.  The situation is so severe that French President Emmanuel Macron is calling for it to be included on the agenda at the G-7 Meeting in Biarritz.  The President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro, whose environmental policies are under attack, has just announced he may call in the Brazilian Army to fight the unprecedented fires in the Amazon, which is known as "the lungs of the world." Fires Sending Smoke 2,000 Miles Away The fires are so extensive that smoke extends 2000 miles a

Uber Announces Air Taxi Test Flights in Melbourne, Australia & Deals with AT&T, Signature Source:  Uber Test Flights in Three Global Cities 2020 A lot of news from Uber today. Uber Technologies has selected Australia's second largest city, Melbourne, as the first international test site for its air taxi service.  The test flights will start in 2020 in Melbourne, along with test flights in previously announced Dallas and Los Angeles.  The test service will link central city locations with nearby airports. Commercial Launch 2023 The Uber air taxi fleet is electric powered and can be ordered on demand by customers through smartphone apps.  The fleet will have vertical takeoff, vertical landing and rapid horizontal flight.  The electric powered vehicles are part helicopter, part drone and part fixed wing aircraft with multiple small rotors.  Uber plans to provide commercial, on demand, ride-sharing air taxi service in 2023.  They also are exploring more location

Electric Flight from South America

Developing New Tech for Electric Plane Engines Source:  Embraer and WEG Green Flying Brazilian electrical engineering company WEG is teaming up with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer SA to develop new technologies for electrical propulsion systems for aircraft.  The development of electric aircraft is a key to reducing global climate change caused by jet fuel emissions and other major sources of carbon dioxide emissions. Blue Skiing into Greener Skies The first test flight for an innovative electric motor by the Brazilian team is scheduled for 2020. The team says they will use a single engine EMB 203 Ipanema plane.  Experts forecast that aircraft design will be revolutionized by radical changes in propulsion systems.  That's why the Brazilian team effort to develop an innovative electric motor for aircraft is so important.  Nations are at the ready to go electric flying. Leading the way is Norway.  It has targeted that all of its domestic flights will be on electri
