  • Elon Musk's Tesla has launched a new "Charge by Solar" feature that enables Tesla owners to charge their vehicles via solar power
  • What makes that important?  They can get the electricity they want from the grid and then top-off with excess solar only & save money
  • Renewables are producing a lot of excess energy and this feature on the Tesla app lets people who own a Tesla, a Tesla powerwall or solar energy system to tap into the solar energy power that's in excess capacity
  • To utilize Musk's latest idea, you need the Tesla app, a Tesla Model X, Y, S or Model 3 or a Tesla powerwall with a solar system on site
  • Tesla says this system powers Tesla EVs as usual going first to the grid and solar but then goes to a Sunslide on the app to top off on the unused, excess solar power that's available
  • It is also customizable to customer real-time energy needs.
