MUSK PREDICTS FULL SELF DRIVING TESLAS IN 2023

  • At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicted that fully self-driving (FSD)  Tesla's will be on the road sometime in 2023
  • He's worked on FSD autonomous technology for several years & hit what he called several "roadblocks" but feels the technology is now ready & he will bring them to market as "we are closer to it than we've ever been"
  • Whether or not Tesla offers FSD cars to consumers this year, autonomous driving will require governments, including the US, to enact legal and regulatory statutes and guidelines to maintain safety on the highways
  • During his keynote address at the World AI Conference, Musk also praised China's achievements in AI and said it will be a global leader in the field
  • China is Tesla's second largest car market after North America and it will be a huge market opportunity for autonomous cars.

GENERATING ELECTRICITY FROM THE AIR

  • Scientists at UMASS Amherst have generated small but continuous amounts of electricity from humid air
  • According to Oxford University Emeritus Professor Peter Dobson, the device is a very big deal as it shows the potential to generate electricity from thin air
  • According to the UMASS team, the discovery was by accident
  • They were making a simple sensor with microscopic nanowires to tap humidity in the air
  • A researcher forgot to plug it in and, to everyone's astonishment, the device started generating electricity like a battery
  • It's the size of a thumbnail & produces a microwatt of electricity but can be stacked up to increase the electricity flow
  • It needs to be further developed to the point where it could power our homes
  • Nonetheless, this is a first with great potential
  • There is tremendous energy stored in water molecules in the air and the key is finding a scalable way to collect it
  • Could the UMASS discovery be an answer?

ULTRA AERODYNAMIC ELECTRIC SPORTS CAR

  • Japanese motorsports company Aim has created an ultra-sleek, lightweight & highly aerodynamic electric sports car, the Sport 01, that later this month, will debut its muscle at the UK's Goodwood Festival of Speed that is famous for its 1.16-mile uphill course
  • The EV, designed by former Nissan chief designer Shiro Nakamura famous for the Nissan GT-R, is being hailed for its striking design and its powerful performance, including
  1. Super sleek, aerodynamic body design of steel and carbon, butterfly doors and clean, flowing lines
  2. Fully electric, liquid cooled, high performance, dual motor powertrain with rear-wheel drive
  3. 81 kWh lithium-ion battery that is split into 4 battery packs
  4. 483 hp and 546 ft lbs of torque and 10,000 rpm
  • Experts are calling this the "electric sports car of the future"
  • Aim says it is considering putting it into production for consumers to buy.
