US' 1st Hydrogen Ferry - Big Sea Change

  Sea Change: Hydrogen Fuel Cell Ferry For San Francisco Bay                   Source:  All American Marine & SWITCH Maritime US Maritime Industry Starts to Transition from Fossil Fuels to Clean Propulsion The US' first hydrogen fuel cell ferry has just been launched.  The 70 foot Sea Change is a 75 passenger, electric ferry powered by hydrogen fuel cells that will carry passengers on San Francisco Bay.  It was built by All American Marine as a prototype that can be used to develop zero emissions, hydrogen vessels for use in the US and abroad.  The launch of Sea Change is important because it represents a big step by the US maritime industry to transition from highly polluting fossil fuels to cleaner methods of propulsion in the water.   Pilot Programs Starting in Houston                                                  Source:  Nuro Race to Cut Package Delivery Costs by Robotics FedEx and robotics/autonomous delivery startup Nuro of Silicon Valley, CA just announced a multi-year deal to test autonomous delivery vehicles for the FedEx delivery network.  The pilot program will start in Houston, where Nuro's low speed, unmanned R2 vehicles are already making deliveries for Domino Pizza and Kroger supermarkets.  FedEx says it will start sending vehicles for late night pickups in remote areas.  The aim of the partnership is to test and deploy Nuro's next generation autonomous delivery vehicles on a large scale basis.  The next G Nuro is all electric, low speed and self-driving with no space for humans only cargo. California Startup Exosonic Developing Supersonic Air Force One                                                                           Source:  Exosonic Traveling Close to Twice the Speed of Sound California startup Exosonic is working with the US Air Force to develop a supersonic jet to carry the President of the United States.  It's a supersonic version of Air Force One.  Exosonic has secured a contract with the Presidential and Executive Airlift Directorate (PE) to develop its concept for a Mach 1.8 twin engine SST jet aircraft with a low sonic boom. Travelling at Speeds of 1,381 mph The Exosonic SST is a luxurious business jet for the President and his entourage.  It has 31 passenger seats, private suites for work and rest and leather, quartz and oak fittings.  The vehicle cruises at twice the speed of current aircraft or 1,381 mph.   Airstream and National Forest Foundation Program                                                         Source:  Airstream Planting Nearly 200,000 Trees to Offset Carbon Emissions US based RV and camper company Airstream is buying nearly 200,000 trees to neutralize emissions from all of its RV and camper trailers bought in 2021.  It is donating enough money to the National Forest Foundation in the US to plant the trees to neutralize the emissions.  It is a step in the right direction for the RV and camper trailer industry.  Named  the Caravan to Carbon Neutral, it also allows Airstream owners to contribute additional money to plant more trees that they personally fund.   US EPA Setting Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Planes                        Source:  Stock Image of Airplane Emissions Planes Among Top Fastest Growing Emissions Sources The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is finalizing the world's 1st regulations on aircraft greenhouse gas emissions.  The new emissions standards are now being formalized and will apply to commercial aircraft and large business jets.  The EPA says this will align with international standards including that for the UN global aircraft emissions standards. Big aerospace companies like Airbus SE and Boeing support the standard.  Critics of the new regulations, now being formulated, think that they should be toughened by incoming President Joe Biden. More Details The compliance date on the new EPA regulations for airplanes is January 1, 2028.  If not in compliance by then, aircraft that are not modified will have to go out of service and newly manufactured aircraft have to comply.  A group of 11 states

  Spot Spotted on the High Seas Aboard an Oil Rig Source:  Boston Dynamics Spot RoboDog Multitasking Robot Dog I've been following Boston Dynamics' Spot RoboDog for some time.  Here's an update on this incredible quadruped, multi-tasking robot dog.  Spot has been on duty in Asia doing polite, social distancing patrols on the streets of Singapore to advise and encourage people to keep their distances and prevent the spread of COVID-19 among residents during 2020.  Spot is serving as a service assistance robot in US offices and homes.  He's on duty as a patrol robot on UK construction sites.  And, now Spot has gone on the high-seas, aboard a British Petroleum oil rig more than 190 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico to do off-shore robotic duty.  Spot seems to be the world's greatest utility robot.
