Green Pepsi Deliveries to Start in December on Tesla E-Big Rigs                                                       Source:  Tesla Tesla CEO Elon Musk's Electric Semi-Trucks to Hit the Roads Pepsi has confirmed that it will start using Tesla electric semi-trucks to make product deliveries in December 2022.  The snack and beverage giant will start receiving the 100 Tesla semi-trucks that it ordered on December 1, 2022. The electric, zero-emissions semi-trucks are one of CEO Elon Musk's favorite projects because of their positive impact on the environment. But they've been a long time coming because of supply shortages and production delays.  Pepsi will be the first buyer of the zero-emissions semi to take delivery.  They will start going into operation at Pepsi's California Frito-Lay and beverage plants and then be fanned out to other locations. Pepsi's goals are to cut its carbon emissions and to reduce fuel costs. It is an important start to the process of redu

GREEN BARBECUES - NO POLLUTION

Image
New Tech Cuts BBQ Pollution 90% Source:  Stock Image of Steak on a Grill German Innovation German scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) have invented a technology that cuts toxic carbon fumes from barbecues by 90%.  The IBP team studied and analyzed the toxic pollutants emitted by charcoal grills, pizza ovens and bread ovens and innovated a new system to greatly reduce it.  Their research was commissioned by the German Environment Agency.  By some estimates, the pollution emitted from a barbecue for a family of four is the equivalent of driving a car for 90 miles. BBQ Pollution The IBP scientists demonstrated that the BBQ grill produces nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, particulate matter, benzene and hydrocarbons - many of which are harmful to human health.  They found that the pollution is produced by incomplete combustion of fats combining with the type of fuel used.  The higher the fatty content of the meat, the higher the amount of pollution

AUDI GREEN POWER PLAN FOR GRIDS

Image
Partnering with EnBW to Power Grids with Used EV Batteries Source:  MIT Green on Green Power An environmentally friendly, innovative undertaking by German automaker Audi and utility EnBW to recycle and reuse old EV batteries has just been announced.  They'll use the old batteries to help power the grid.  By the end of this year, they will have completed a new electric car battery operation at EmBW's Heilbrom plant to build scalable energy storage facilities.  E-battery recycling and reuse are the holy grail for car and battery manufacturers.  And the storage of energy is another big priority for industry. Energy Recycling, Reuse, Storage For renewable energy companies, storing excess, unused surplus energy of solar and wind power generation is an urgent need.  So, Audi wants to develop what they're calling  a "plug and play" battery storage system for the energy industry.  Audi says this system will be a blueprint for a scalable product that they inte

BMW'S GREEN POWER COMMITMENT

BMW Demands Renewable Energy Batteries Source:  BMW iNEXT Smart Battery, Green Power German automaker BMW has taken a very strong, green power position.  CEO Oliver Zipse says BMW electric cars will use battery cells produced by using renewable energy.  This decision by BMW will compel big global battery suppliers to use non-coal generated electricity.  Mr. Zipse says he has contractual agreements with their battery cell manufacturers to use only green power to make BMW's 5th generation battery cells. BMW's New Lineup of Electric Vehicles BMW is launching a new lineup of electric vehicles.  They're launching the electric BMW iX3 this year and the BMW iNEXT and BMW i4 in 2021.  BMW estimates the use of green battery power in their electric vehicles will save 10 million tons of CO2 over the next decade.  That is the equivalent of carbon dioxide emissions produced by a city of more than one million people.

New Organic Battery, Good for Environment

Image
Organic Proton Battery with Sustainable Storage Source:  Uppsala University From Sweden, New Battery that's Good for Environment Scientists at Sweden's Uppsala University have invented a proton battery that is composed of organic  materials and is based on protons rather than  ions.  The organic compounds are called quinones,  which are used by plants in photosynthesis and are  plentiful in nature.  This is a proof of concept, small button cell battery with outstanding performance. And, it's a first of its kind. Climate Smart Battery The Uppsala scientists call this a climate smart battery  with sustainable energy storage.  It reaches a full  capacity recharge in seconds (100), using a solar cell.   It can be charged and discharged more than 500 times  without any loss of capacity. The battery is free of any fire or explosion hazards.  And, unlike standard batteries, it is unaffected by ambient temperatures. Big Green

Biodegradable Bioplastics - From Food Waste
