Car With Flying Drone Launches to Videotape the Drive

Sweden-based electric car manufacturer Polestar has a new all-electric convertible sports car concept that comes with its own flying drone.  The EV called O2 is a stunning sports car convertible with 2+2 seating, meaning 2 seats in the front and 2 snug seats in the back.  O2 is a highly advanced piece of automotive engineering with a bonded aluminum body.  It is totally electric, zero emissions with the added advanced technology of a flying, built in "cinematic drone".  The drone is engineered to launch from the rear of the car, while the car is moving, and then videotape the driver's journey along the road for later cinematic viewing.

Tech Specs

The O2 is Polestar's second concept car and follows Precept which debuted in 2020 and is now being manufactured as Polestar 5.  O2's smooth exterior body is made from bonded aluminum which eliminates 4,000 rivets that would have been needed to hold together a traditional car body of metal sheets. The bonded aluminum is held together by oven curing and adhesive.  Polestar says this new architecture allows for greater design flexibility, more agile steering and more dynamic driving.  The O2 is aerodynamically designed, with a sleek low to the ground body and wide dimensions.  It is designed to directly compete with Tesla's Roadster.

Sustainable Driving

Being Polestar, the O2 has been developed to be sustainable.  Much of the interior is made of recyclable material.  And the aluminum body is also made to be easily recyclable.

Unique Companion Drone & How it Works

The car's drone is an engineering marvel.  The big question is how it would launch from a car that's being driven? Polestar engineers have created a unique airfoil behind the back seat that creates a calm, negative pressure zone for the drone to launch from the car.  The drone works autonomously and follows the car at speeds up to 56 mph.  It videotapes the car's journey.  After the taping is finished, the drone returns to the car with the footage that can be viewed on a 15-inch center display screen once the car is parked.  Polestar is owned by China's Geely, which also owns Volvo and the drone maker Aerofugia, which has developed the car's drone. Polestar is a Swedish electric car brand, acquired by Volvo.  To take a look at more future travel modes, go to https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asin=B09SDMGYDH&preview=newtab&linkCode=kpe&ref_=cm_sw_r_kb_dp_798B3JJ437G1ZYJPEA2T
