NEW SCIENCE:  TURNS OUT EVEN INSECTS LIKE TO PLAY

  • Many global scientists argue there is widespread consciousness across the animal and insect world. That meaning awareness of their experiences and feeling, including joy and pain. Here's what we know:
  •  This past weekend at New York University, 40 scientists signed the New York Declaration on Animal Consciousness which argues that scientific research indicates a widespread possibility of animal consciousness
  • Some experts think we are blinded on how our sentience might work in other species
  • Recent experiments showed that bees played with wooden balls just for fun; fish recognized their image in an underwater mirror; and octopus avoid things that caused previous pain
  • Some scientists say it is irresponsible to ignore the research and the welfare of these creatures
  • So, the next time you respond to a rude human with "you dumb animal" or "you insensitive insect" you may actually be insulting our highly sensitive, intelligent, playful friends in the animal and insect world around us...by putting the oaf on their lofty level.

  • NASA plans to use a powerful, state-of-the-art AI foundation model to analyze and come-up with efficient and effective weather and climate change solutions.  Here are some key facts:
  • NASA is concerned about the rising number of severe weather events due to Climate Change
  • It just announced that it's partnering with IBM, NVIDIA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory & several universities to build a huge AI foundation model on weather and Climate Change with weather/atmospheric data back to the 1980's
  • NASA is open-sourcing it to spur scientific cooperation & discovery
  • They intend to study weather and CC events and generate efficient and effective solutions
  • The key is the AI discovery tools
  • Ultimate goal:  create a digital twin of the Earth to provide unprecedented analysis and predictions on weather, climate and the environment
  • NASA's hope is the new WX/CC model along with the new AI Geospatial foundation model, that stores & analyzes sat imagery, will provide tremendous advances in Earth science discoveries and help fight Climate Change.
