  • Americans eat an astounding 3 million tons of chocolate every year.  Some of the best chocolate delicacies are made in Switzerland.  Now, Swiss scientists from the prestigious ETH Zurich have re-invented the recipe for chocolate in order to make it more healthy, sustainable and as flavorable.  Here are some key facts:
  • Chocolate is made from cacao seeds and then loaded with sugar and saturated fatty acids, making it delicious but a big risk for diabetes, heart disease and weight gain
  • Swiss scientists have revolutionized the recipe
  • They use part of the cocoa fruit that's typically discarded
  • They harvest the fiber-rich inner wall and combine it with the juice of the pulp that covers the cacao seeds to create a sweet gel
  • Result: a low sugar, high fiber, great tasting alternative that the scientists say is as good as normal chocolate but more healthy
  • Next steps:  they need to commercialize it, change the mindset of the chocolate making industry and take it to market
  • Some experts think that consumers could prove to be a strong advocate for this new chocolate recipe
  • Wouldn't you love to have a piece of chocolate, just enjoy and have no dietary regrets?

  • Amid rising tensions with Russia's Vladimir Putin, the US yesterday successfully test launched a hypersonic nuclear missile. It's clearly a warning shot against adversaries: do not mess with the US and our allies. Here are some key facts:
  • An unarmed Minuteman III ICBM launched yesterday from Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA
  • Purpose:  show the "readiness of US nuclear forces" as a deterrent
  • The hypersonic missile can reach Moscow in 30 minutes
  • It is capable of reaching any target in Russia or China
  • Traveled at hypersonic speeds of 15,000 mph for more than 4,000 miles over the central Pacific Ocean
  • To put the capabilities into perspective, Moscow is 5,900 miles from the California launch site and it can reach Moscow in 30 minutes and destroy it
  • This test launch is considered a show of force by the US aimed at the Chinese and Russian leadership amid growing fears of a potential escalation in tensions, particularly in Europe over Ukraine and Putin's territorial ambitions.
